A Blogging Potpourri

I looked up the word potpourri in the dictionary and I think this post definitely qualifies….

1. a mixture of dried petals of roses or other flowers with spices, kept in a jar for their fragrance.
2. a musical medley.

3. a collection of miscellaneous literary extracts.
4. any mixture, esp. of unrelated objects, subjects, etc.

First, I’d like to welcome a new friend to the Homeschool Blogger blogging world!  As you might remember from one of my early posts entitled "Crockpot Creativity" (which I stole borrowed from Holly), this lady is a very talented writer!  Please go check out Holly’s brand new blog!  She’s a VERY funny story teller!

Second…for a little story of my own.  On Thanksgiving weekend, we took a family trip to Pittsburgh.  After a much needed potty stop,  I returned to the car with a cup of coffee.  (Nevermind that less coffee would mean fewer potty stops!)  Upon my return to the car, Janna decided that she wanted coffee too.  I volunteered to go back inside to get it for her.  After I left, Darcy said to the little guy, "Isn’t our mom nice?"

Jimmy replied, "Well, she looks nice, but she isn’t always nice."  Jeez, kids can be brutal.

Third, I’m afraid that blogging might have to take a back seat to life in the weeks to come.  My company has asked me to work on a project which is going to keep me very busy.  So much for blogging.  Please don’t think I’ve abandoned my blog or yours!  I promise I’ll try to post periodically and will make an effort to visit yours from time to time too!!  I’ve come to LOVE this community and have gotten quite attached to my friends here! (sniff!!)

And finally, for those of you who are "the praying type", I would ask that you pray for my daughter, Darcy, this week.  She is a student at Northern Illinois University.  It’s finals week at NIU, but the campus was closed today as a result of threats of violence which were found scrawled on a bathroom wall in one of the dormitories over the weekend.  Among other things, the threats included a reference to the Virginia Tech shootings from last spring.  My head tells me that it is likely nothing more than an incredibly horrific hoax, but in light of recent events in Nebraska and Colorado, it kind of leaves a mom feeling a little bit shaky.  Pray for safety for Darcy and for all the students at NIU.  Pray that she will be wise and that she will be able to focus on her finals tomorrow and Thursday.  All day today I have had Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s words from "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" going through my head.

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men!"

"Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." (Luke 2:14, NLT)

  1. First- Thanks for the heads up! She's hilarious!
    Second- I firmly believe that God made them cute so we wouldn't change our minds…
    Third- No! Just no…. =(
    Finally- Praying here! No matter how much your head says things are fine- as I'm sure they are- having your babies far away is hard! Moms do tend to worry. Which is why I've told my remaining children that they are never allowed to leave. Never.
    (I didn't say they agreed to it….)

  2. Mom's worry – it's what we do. I'll pray for her safety and calmness for her tests. I'll pray for a calm spirit for you.

    Nothing can grip your heart like your child.

    I also know what you mean about blogging. I feel like I'm spending too much time here – but I do enjoy it! And I feel like you and some others are becoming such good friends. I need to be spending time getting some other things done, too…. like shopping, cleaning etc etc…. those etc's really get me behind!

    Take care….
